Councillor Pamela Dixon awarded an MBE
February 7, 2012

We are delighted to announce that Councillor Pamela Dixon was awarded an MBE for services to the community in Altrincham in the Queen's New Year honours list.

Having been elected as a member of Trafford Council in 1990, Cllr Dixon went on to become mayor of the borough from 2004 to 2005.

She was also been chairman of governors at Heyes Lane Primary School, in Timperley, for more than 20 years.

While she was mayor, Cllr Dixon attended more than 300 functions, and raised in excess of £50,000 for the mayor’s charity fund.

Cllr Dixon said: “As a councillor I feel as though I have done as much work for the community as my predecessors, and I love being at the school and seeing the children develop year after year.”

On receiving the MBE, Cllr Dixon said: “I am absolutely delighted. It is a great honour, and something you would never ever dream of getting”

For Cllr Dixon, being named on the Queen’s honours list is on par with being Trafford’s mayor.

She said: “The two achievements go alongside one another. Not everyone gets to be the mayor of Trafford, and it is a wonderful authority to be a part of.”

She added: “My only regret was that my husband Ian died three years ago. It is a shame that he was unable to see this.

“I have a wonderful son, Ben, who has been so supportive. Without the support of my family I could not have done it.”
